AI canvas

Use AI to think through ideas on your canvas.

Dia, Grein's AI assistant, works with the board you have open. Ask it about your notes, have it reorganize a messy board, or let Peek suggest what to look at next. Dia is on the Pro plan.

Example board

Ask about the board, not a blank prompt.

Open the AI panel and ask. Dia reads the blocks on the board you're on, including notes, links, files and images, so you don't have to paste your work into a separate chat.

To focus on one thing, right-click a block and choose Ask AI. Dia then answers about that block and anything inside it, and nothing else.

Example board

Have it make the changes.

Ask Dia to group notes into themes, outline a plan, connect related ideas, or build out a section with stock images. It plans the changes, then makes them on the board while you watch.

Everything it adds is ordinary blocks. Keep what helps, move it, or delete it, and undo works as usual.

Example board

It reads links and documents when you ask.

When a question needs a link, an uploaded document or a quick web search, Dia reads it and cites what it used. It only opens links that are in the conversation or on the board, and only when the answer depends on them.

Each reply can read up to 5 links and run up to 3 searches.

Example board

Peek suggests the next step while you work.

Turn on Peek and it looks at what changed on the board every few minutes, then offers one short suggestion when something would help. It works toward the project's description, so say what the project is for.

Choose how often it speaks up: Quiet, Subtle or Proactive. Peek is in beta and needs Pro.

What the AI can and can't do

Plan
Dia and Peek are on Pro. Connecting your own Claude or ChatGPT works on any plan.
What it sees
The board you have open and what's nested inside it. It doesn't read your other projects.
Who gets it
People who can edit the project. Viewers and visitors on a public link don't get Peek.
Web reads
Links and searches go through Jina AI. Files you upload are read by Grein's own servers first.
Your data
Grein doesn't use your boards, prompts or replies to train its own models.
Chat history
Your AI conversations are kept in your browser, and you can include them when you download your data.

From a messy board to a plan

One way to use Dia on a project that's still taking shape.

  1. 1

Get the material onto the board.

Paste links, drop in files and write rough notes. Don't organize yet.

  2. 2

    Ask for the shape.

Ask Dia to group the board into themes and name each group.

  3. 3

    Check the reasoning.

Ask what's missing, or what the strongest and weakest ideas are, and why.

  4. 4

    Go deeper on one idea.

Right-click the block you care about and ask about just that.

  5. 5

    Keep going with Peek.

Turn Peek on and let it suggest the next step as you work.
